Construction of the Iver Johnson Building began in 1896 and was completed in 1898. The Johnsonia, one of the largest buildings in the city, became the pride of the Fitchburg and Worcester County. It was built of Indiana Sandstone in an Italian Renaissance style, which was one of many architectural revival styles during the late 1800’s. Its rounded windows and the Roman brick fretwork evidence these Renaissance details. The building was renovated in 2007 and turned into luxury condos and apartments. On June 13, 2011 the building was heavily damaged by fire.
Proceeds from the sale of this wine benefits the resident victims who lost everything in that fire.
