Savings Bank, Orange Power Co., Leavitt Machine Co., and the Grout Automobile
Co. In 1903 the Wheeler Mansion was
known as "the finest in this part of the state."

The history of the White Drum Restaurant really started when
Evelyn Shovan opened a waffle shop at the intersection of then Route 2 (now
Rte. 2A) and Route 78. The building burned down around 1933 and was rebuilt as
the White Drum in 1935/36. The restaurant was run by Shovan and later her son,
Stephen, until 1970, when it was sold to Robert and James Minichiello. Robert
was manager, his wife, Lorraine, was hostess, and James was chef. In 1975, The
Drum and Chef James' culinary skills were featured in a segment of "The Elder
American" television program for channel 27. That same year, Boston Globe food
and wine critic Anthony Spinazzola gave the restaurant three stars in his "Let's Eat Out" column. The Minichiello's ran The Drum until 1976. Currently,
it is an Asian food restaurant.

The Minute Tapioca plant started out as a shoe
factory for the Jay Reynolds Co. from 1887-1895. Minute Tapioca began as
the Whitman Grocery Co. on Water Street and was moved to 131 West Main St. in
1902. The name changed to Minute Tapioca in 1908. General Foods bought the
company in 1926 and moved out of Orange in 1966/67.
Rich and ripe, this Cabernet Sauvignon featuring the Butterfield Park Bandstand boasts ripe berry aromas and an intensely fruity character. The bandstand was moved from the Town Hall to Butterfield
Park in June 1907. It was rebuilt around 1980 by the Orange Community Band and
